Marvel’s Doctor Strange was just as wonderful as a Marvel fan would hope for.  Benedict Cumberbatch sheds his Sherlockian ways, and his English accent in lieu of an American one.  He plays the narcissistic neurosurgeon Stephen Strange.  A tragic accident causes him to lose the use of his hands, and he gives up almost everything he owns in search of a cure.  He ends up finding humility and many questions as he travels to Kathmandu where he encounters Tilda Swinton’s character, The Ancient One.  There he learns about the mystic arts.

First, it should be noted that this movie is not like the other Marvel films.  Yes, the Avengers type feel is seen in the humor and the Marvel Universe is expanding with each film.  The connection is strong between all of them, so if you’ve been following carefully, you’ll find answers and a beautiful weaving of each story.  The acting by this stellar cast, however, cannot be emphasized enough.  Every actor delivers.  From Cumberbatch and Swinton, to Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong,  Mads Mikkelsen and even the under-utilized Rachel McAdams, their talent shines through, making the sometimes silly dialogue sound absolutely real.

Dark dimensions, magical relics and such, this movie is stunning with its magical looking visual effects.  It’s fun, different… and just… well, strange.  And then there are those extra clips – in the middle of the credits we get a fun cameo that makes me excited to see where the next phase will lead.  Don’t miss out on those.  Go see Doctor Strange, and be transported to a world where magic is all around.
